Who Needs Grammar When You Have “😭”?
Honestly, why do we hate typing full sentences?
It’s not that we can’t. We absolutely can.
Give us an English exam and suddenly we know how to construct a perfectly respectable paragraph.
But ask us a simple question over text and our brain goes:
Too much effort.
Maybe it’s because texting isn't really about writing anymore. It's about getting the thought out before you lose interest.
You don't sit there thinking about sentence structure. You just type what your brain is saying.
And our brains are fast.
Half the time, we're replying while walking, eating, watching something, listening to music and pretending to pay attention to someone talking to us.
So yes, sometimes the sentence gets sacrificed.
Also, there’s something weirdly uncomfortable about sounding too proper in a text.
A full, grammatically correct sentence can feel strangely serious.
Like you're about to discuss a business merger.
“I will see you tomorrow.”
Why does that sound like we're closing a deal?
Just say it normally.
There’s also the fact that your friends already know how you talk.
They know your tone.
They know when you're joking.
They know what you mean when you send one word and disappear.
You don't need to explain everything.
Sometimes a thought is just a thought.
Sometimes it’s half a sentence.
Sometimes it's one word.
Sometimes it's literally just an emoji because honestly, words would be doing too much.
And maybe that's why full sentences feel unnecessary.
Not because we don't know how to use them.
We just don't always feel like performing English when we're talking to our friends.
We're talking.
Not writing an essay.
So if my text has no capital letters, questionable punctuation and ends somewhere in the middle of a thought...
I promise I know what a full stop is.
I just didn't feel like using one.
